Game Description & Reviews:
Last Resort is an earlier SNK mvs/aes release (1992), one brimming with NeoGeo style, though maybe lacking some of the complex design elements we start see in NeoGeo titles a few years later. It's impressive detail makes you think R-type, and no surprise the gameplay is MUCH like R-type II.
Players will be given a sort of "force" (coined r-type term) immediately at the start of the game, the orb may me placed at any position of the players ship to both shield and fire at oncoming enemies and either loose placed, or locked. Fire is controlled by dpad/joystick, so depending on how you placed your orb, you will need to maneuver the dpad/joystick to shoot in the direction of oncoming enemies. Power-ups are sometimes dropped by enemies, which can be picked up for more powerful projectiles, or laser weapons. The orb may also be charged and shot outward in any direction for a more powerful attack (again reminiscent of R-type).
Level design is linear, as with most 'shmups', and scrolls horizontally at a constant speed in only one direction (Left to right). You will start out a level attacking smaller enemies and gaining power-ups, to hopefully survive the end boss.
If you like the 'shmups' or spaceship shooter type games, surely you will love this one. You really cannot go wrong with Last Resort, brilliant level design, catchy thumping tunes, and brilliant environments.
