How to Play this Game ?
Game Description & Reviews:
This is a fantastic hack and the way many hacks should operate. Not only does this team change all the sprites and texts in the game, but they took the time to create brand spanking new levels using the original Mega Man engine! The only thing they could've done better was figure out a way to change the midi files to make new music or alter the functionality of the weapons to make them original as well.
In this version of Mega Man, you play as Bass and his mission is to prove his strength by defeating his master. The characters may use and give the same weapons from the original Mega Man (a few sprite changes here and there) the characters, the level designs and concepts are one of a kind different. Cut man's stage is now a water level. Guts Man's goes from mine to dessert and Fire Man's is now a forest. These guys took full advantage of the sprites and NES capabilities by overhauling images on the screen making this Mega Man feel more like one of the later installments towards the demise of the system's lifespan.
All new traps and follies including fake ladders that lead to death, fake pathways that look like you can walk on them yet fall through and a few other surprises. They pretty much deleted the trap falling platforms from Guts Man's stage in the game for the most part and those wretched disappearing and reappearing blocks from most of the stages are gone entirely. Another cool function is the power ups seem to only take one energy point off each use so you are encouraged to use them way more often.
Though not a perfect game as they failed to kink out all of the glitches, there are moments where you teleport to the other side of the screen to get trapped, if you die you come back a different color (I thought that was cool till the glitches started to intensify) the last level boss glitched into the pre-battle area and caused quite a mix up. Another area where you teleport between different bosses, I died at one, when I came back, the teleportation device wouldn't allow me to progress forward so I had to reset the game so State Saves are a must as you progress through the stages.
But in the end, the quality of the graphical enhancements and vast amounts of changes makes this a must for the original Mega Man series fan. It reinvents the original Mega Man, keeping the nostalgia kicking but the surprises coming. Of all the current hacks on Mega Man, this is the most innovative and original.
