SpiralPegasus rates this game: 5/5NiGHTS Into Dreams is a hard game to put any sort of label on. Not even it's genre is actually clear.
This game was the one that Sonic Team was most proud of not counting the Sonic series itself.
It is really not very intuitive - chances are that to understand how to play it you'll need to look up a guide on the internet. Even if you have no idea what you're doing it still will (most likely) capture you, specially if you enjoy colorful games with open worlds.
Basically, as I understand, the gameplay revolves around using NiGHTS to fly through a race course, gathering spheres as fast as possible. It is a lot more interesting than it sounds and I think that I wouldn't be able to express with proper words how pretty it looks and sounds and how nice it plays.
SEGA fan? If so, it's a must get!
LeftyGuitar rates this game: 4/5Nights into Dreams is an amazing Sega Saturn game. Fly around through a dream inspired world. Collecting orbs and flying through loops. The controls, the graphics and sound are all amazing. Also, Nights into Dreams is a very unique game in all aspects. A masterpiece if you will. Fly through the loops and do tricks, collect orbs and rack up your score. If you haven't played Nights, give it a go now!
ponut64 rates this game: 4/5NiGHTS into Dreams is a dream racing/exploration game developed by Sonic Team. The music and character art express the excellence of Sonic Team, so if you like their games, you will enjoy this one. It is also typically short for a Sega game of the era.
This game's presentation is unorthodox when you first start. First off, NiGHTS and most of the background characters look... jester-ish or clown-ish. Do you like clowns? Otherwise... You are presented with a fully 3D world as nightmares come and steal your dream force away, and so NiGHTS beckons you forth to his little palace so he can help you face your nightmares. Or something like that. What it boils down to is you generally start the level with full 3D control then immediately walk to NiGHTS which starts the game proper:
A race against the clock for you to collect 20 orbs and "turn them in" to the energy capture machine thingy to blow it up and release the dream energy inside. Then it becomes a battle against the clock to rack up the highest score possible before turning in to the Dream Palace to start the next "race course", which in the game is called a Mare. Complete four Mares and you will then be faced with a boss battle and potentially humorous music.
While the game isn't too much of a challenge to simply complete, there is a reason to do well and get at least a C rank on all the levels as this will unlock the final level.
Overall for its music, pleasurable gameplay, and casual appeal, NiGHTS into Dreams is an excellent game for its time.
