Game Review: Mario Kart Super Circuit
Title: | Mario Kart Super Circuit |
Platform: | Game Boy Advance |
Genre: | Racing |
Developer: | Intelligent Systems |
Publisher: | Nintendo |
Release: | August 27, 2001 |
Introduction: Yet another version of the number one kart game Mario Kart. This time Nintendo mixed the Snes version with a whole new set of tracks and new bonuses and they didn't do a bad job at all. But of course we already knew Nintendo rules at that. Both the Japanese and English version works with all emulators, and if the emulator has multiplayer support the fun will never end.
Review: It has yet again the choice of eight characters: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, Peach, DK, Wario and Bowser. Of these characters Luigi is far out the favourite, due to his fats turning, followed in a distance by Mario, Bowser and then DK, because they're pretty well balanced (Bowser doesn't have a good acceleration, but he makes that up with a very high top speed).
Most people I asked, and myself too, find the time trial mode the best. The GP mode is also popular but most people find it kind of boring after winning a couple of times, because the computer difficulty doesn't change while the time trial mode is always a challenge due to the ghosts of your best times that can get better and better all the time
This game is fun for all. Especially when your emulator supports multiplayer. Not only can you race the GP mode with that, but another popular option is of course the battle mode, just for the fun of shooting your friends, but you can only play it if your emulator has multiplayer support or if you have a GBA, like me. I haven't personally seen that this option works well with emulators, because I haven't got an emulator that supports multiplayer, I only know this option is cool because I have a GBA and my friends say it works fine so I'll just have to believe them for it.
But even without the multiplayer this game is a must-have for all gamers, just for being a Mario kart game and for having such a wide variety of tracks and obstacles. Also there are more than enough secrets and bonuses in the game for if you win the cups etc. etc. Trying to find these will make the game play much more fun and are really worth the effort.
Conclusion: In short the Mario Kart series CAN get better after all. If you don't have this game yet it's sure worth the trouble of downloading it. And for the people who don't know the Mario Kart series I say: "shame on you and d/l it now" because you don't know what you've missed.
Ratings: (scale of 0.0 - 5.0)
Gameplay: 4.0 | Graphics: 4.0 |
A great multiplayer option, plus, the goal of the single player mode is quite hard to reach, so it packs hours of enjoyment. | There are no graphics glitches on the emulator, but the GBA still looks better. Very similiar to the N64 version. |
Sound: 3.5 | Overall: 4.0 |
The sound and music emulation is good, but again, it still isn't as good as the GBA. Remember those classic Mario tunes. | Thanks to the multiplayer option which will never be boring for anyone with enough friends. Yet, you have to have an emulator that supports multiplayer. Great game! |
