Game Review: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Geek Specs:
Title: Zelda: Majora's Mask
Platform: Nintendo 64
Genre: RPG/Adventure
Developer: Nintendo
Publisher: Nintendo
Release: October 26, 2000

Introduction: In this game, time is everything. In Ocarina Of Time, Link traveled through seven years of his own lifetime, but in Majora's Mask, the time is used in a more unique way. Link has 72 hours to save the world, but he will travel through this timeline over and over again. If you forget to look at the watch (it's in the bottom of the screen, and looks kind of weird), you're out. Masks are everything in the game too. Three of the masks are able to transform Link into different creatures. You're able to get up to 24 masks, all of them with different effects. They do everything from exploding your own face, to turning Link into a massive giant (it's not a transform mask, cause it only works in one room, and you're still Link but larger). Ocarina of Time is a bit better and bigger than Majora's Mask, though. There's just a special feel over Majora's Mask. It's more absurd and enigmatic than Ocarina of Time. The moon that's threatening Termina is very weird - It's got an evil face. If you get this game, you won't have time to do anything besides eating and sleeping, got it? But don't let that stop you. It didn't stop me. :-)

Review: This is one of the best games for the Nintendo 64. Ever. Link is in the lost woods, riding his horse, Epona. Suddenly, two fairies scare Epona and Link falls off. This is just the beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Link chases a skullkid deeper into the forest and runs off a cliff. When he's down, you find yourself in a new world, called Termina. Link has to save Termina from its terrible fate; in three days, the moon will fall down in the middle of Clock Town, a small town in the center of Termina, and destroy Termina. Link has to save Termina in 72 hours, or he and Termina are doomed. But Link is not helpless. As in Ocarine of Time, the ocarina plays a major role. Link can play his ocarina to travel three days back in time. Then he has 72 more hours to save Termina. He has to do this many times, cause you can't beat the whole game in one hour (it took me one month to play trough the whole game with all the masks), so if he helped a man in the 2nd day, then travels back, he has to help this man again. This is just the beginning of one of Link's biggest adventures. Majora's Mask, as the name suggests, is a game with many nice, and not-so-nice masks. There are three special masks that are able to turn Link into three different creatures; Deku Scrub, Goron, and Zora, all well-known from Ocarina of Time. When he wears them, he doesn't just turn into them, he'll get their special tricks and moves. The Deku scrub is able to fly, The Goron is able to roll fast, and the Zora swims like a fish. Link has to combine all these skills with his mind to beat four temples and stop the moon from destroying the world, and in the end take care of the evil Skullkid and the monstrous Mask of Majora.

Conclusion: This is a very great game for the Nintendo 64. You don't learn all the sword-tricks and all the stuff Link is able to do, but you'll remember them all if you've played Ocarina of Time. You must play the three days over and over again, which makes this game very special. The story takes place about two months or so after Ocarina Of Time, so I kind of feel sorry for Link because he never got time to rest. Poor Link.

Gameplay: 5.0 Graphics: 5.0
In this game, you'll have to think. You'll have to think a bit more than in the Gameboy Game, and some more than in Ocarina of Time. Link will be able to transform into different creatures too, which is very important. If you're a big Zelda fan, like me, you just have to have it. The graphics in this game are just too good. They are a little tiny bit better than in Ocarina Of Time (yeah, I know, it shouldn't be possible), and you need an Expansion pak to play the game. When you see the cute Deku Scrubs, the big Gorons, and the cool Zoras, you just want to play the game all the time. The graphics are very detailed, and very smoothly animated. You will just love the cut-scenes, and you HAVE to like the graphics. If not... you must die.

Sound: 5.0 Overall: 5.0
In this game, as in many other Zelda's, the music is just great. Every location has its own theme. When I first played Ocarina of Time I was very disappointed because the good old Zelda music (the original Zelda theme that has been in every single Zelda game except Ocarina of Time) was gone. Then, some years later, I played Majora's Mask and was very happy. It's back! Wheee! You just have to hear the cool new remix! It's just great! Well, enough about that. The sounds are great too, and Link has got the old voice. Every person has their own sound that plays when you talk to that person (I like the postman's sound: Yaah!). Well, you just have to have it. Or at least have a friend you can borrow it from. If not, I have a tip: Run to the store, and... buy it! Or, just download it off Emuparadise.org, of course, that's what this site is for... This game is one of the best I've ever played. Just like Ocarina of Time, but Majora's Mask is not that long. But it's hard. And BIG! Actually, it's gigantic, even if you wouldn't think it was (because of the 72 hour limit and so on).
