The game plays similarly to card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh as players set up to three character cards to defend their avatar's life points. Each card has their own Battle Point values that determine how strong a card is and how much damage it does. Character cards also come with abilities that are either passive, can be activated at will like an attack, or only occur when the character enters the field. There are also action cards that cost "spirit points" that the player can use to perform several different actions like heal themselves, destroy all cards on the field, and more. There is even an "unite" mechanic that also cost "spirit points" that allows character cards to team up to pierce through the enemy's defenses. When a character card attacks, you can choose to counter the attack with your own card so the damage is done to the character card and not your life points. Character cards enter a "frozen" state after each attack meaning they cannot counter attack during the opponent's turn so when to attack and with which cards is crucial to not leaving yourself open to attack. The player can traverse a hub world similar to games like Pokemon to challenge CPU opponents, trade cards, and so on. The game also has multiplayer support, but it was originally designed with link cables in mind like many handheld gaming devices. With a total of 300 different cards to choose from based on classic franchises and multiple strategies to develop, SNK Vs Capcom Card Fighters Clash is a great game for players interested in card battle games, especially for fans of the franchises being represented.
