HystericalTendency rates this game: 4/5SO YOU FANCY YOURSELF A YOUNG AND INTREPID HERO, DO YOU? OUT TO PROCURE GREAT SWORDS OF EVIL'S BANE, CAST MAGIC MISSILE AND DEFEAT THE FORCES OF DARKNESS, DO YOU??
Well I suppose that's alright. And quite generous and courageous of you! For you see, we have been in need of one for some time now. An evil, wicked, and most uncomfortably ugly witch has cast a terrible curse upon the royal family, and frightful goblins and monsters (and even some very rude human brigands! Well!) are terrorizing the poor innocent townsfolk. What are they to do at such a time of need, but call out to a great hero to save them!
By the way, that's you.
You yourself, at the beginning, are no more than a traveler from Willowsby in the East. And it's a right shame, because the path you took proved to be dangerous and has now caved in with snow and rock! If you forgot anything back home, then tough cookies to that; you are now trapped in The Realm. Well it's not such a bad thing, really. Though you can't go back to what I'm sure is your lovely little abode to curl up with your favourite book or sharp weapon or whatever silly thing you do in private, there are still plenty of kind citizens (like a butcher and a baker, but no candlestick maker I'm afraid. He moved.) and benevolent magical beings (Faeries and Nymphs and deer! Oh my!) to aid you in your quest. Your Quest...For Glory! Ho ho! See how I so cleverly alluded to the title of this game!
But that's not everything there is to this adventure! Oh, no, my friend, there is indeed MORE! You have the power to choose from a wide variety of commands to thoroughly inspect, feel, talk to, and sleep around all that you find in The Realm. Yes, that's right! Being a hero is very hard work, and you'll need all the rest you can get! But do be discreet about it; you cannot sleep for too long. You also cannot strike up a conversation with inanimate objects or simply touch every creature you come upon. That is most ascertainly rude, un-heroic and just a little bit insane. So don't do that. Oh! And before I ramble on for too much longer and lose my train of thought, you can also choose what kind of hero you wish to be! Simply bully! Shall you be a Fighter, with the amazing strength to slash your foes to itty-bitty pieces? Shall you be a Magic User, who can destroy barriers and throw fireballs with but a flick of the wrist? Or shall you be a Thief, who is swift like the winds and carefully...steals things...from everybody. Um. *ahem* Well if you ask me personally, I don't believe this one is very heroic to be at all, but you do mostly steal from the monsters and enemies, so there you are! Good show!
Well what are you doing still reading this tripe? Haven't I sold you on this delightful game yet? Surely I have by now, so go on then! Have a go with Quest for Glory 1! And don't litter!
